there’s this pervasive idea that since i play enjolras as a poc he’s immediately the bastion of goodness and is one with the oppressed people and– fIRST OF ALL. ????? lets talk about this hierarchal thinking you got going on for a sec.

(tl;dr i get that it’s easier to tear down cis white male enjolras who thinks not being straight makes him entitled to talk about every single form of oppression there is– BUT pocjolras who has a million other privileges stacked up to his advantage should not be given a free pass when he fucks up either.)

secondly, enjolras is a privileged piece of shit, who– even if he is biracial– has internalized and benefitted from so many things like his parents’ socio-economic standing and their willingness to spend it on him, the family name and how he benefits from a legacy already left behind (note to self: pls write out thoughts on family before you lose them all jfc) and also how his genepool has created him to be an “acceptable” black and therefore ISSUES surrounding and within the community itself don’t all affect him.

i havent had a chance to really talk about the the problematics of my enjolras and how it changes given his faceclaim BUT THE FUNDAMENTAL FACT IS: IT DOESN’T. he still has traditional notions of women that he’s internalized, he’s still goDAWFUL and blind to some of his privileges (beauty is a social construct– FUCKING EASY FOR YOU TO SAY) and he’s still not allowed to talk about intra-black discourses because he’s pretty close to a one-man white savior complex waiting to happen (a rebellion on the heels of a funeral, enjolras? how westboro baptist church of you) sO REALLY. REALLY.

enjolras is not the entirety of social justice, he is myopic in his views (if you’ve noticed, a lot of things in his ‘the cause’ tag are very economic/class and broad strokes of race related and little to none focus on women/women’s sexuality or sexuality in general or ideas of discrimination– like he NEVER/DOESN’T talk about rehabilitation of criminals or addicts or ANYTHING. OF THAT SORT.) and he may have a lot of good qualities but they don’t always redeem him.

so!!!!! like i get that somehow people think since he comes from a particular ethnicity he’s y'know, has more voice to speak out about things and to go against him would be to erase the voice of a minority but the entire reason i play him with the fc i am is not because i’m trying to legitimize him into something great but that i’m trying to point out the intersections between all these things that makes a person. And no matter who you are or what marginalized part of society you come from, chances are you’ve internalized things that need to be deconstructed and seen from a fresh perspective. /end broadcast.
