Timeline for Paint the Future Red w/ libertexenrouge
Late September 2013Enjolras goes on his first solo mission since the formation of ABC in Paris. Grantaire sees him for the first time and throws up the first mural over the body. The mural is done in red, black, and gold and depicts Enjolras as a holy warrior leading the People who gaze on it. The mural is instantly given international notice and soon becomes a symbol of the Cause.
Early November 2013Grantaire witnesses another kill at Enjolras’s hands. The second mural goes up over the body once again.
Early December 2013Grantaire follows Enjolras after witnessing a third kill. Enjolras corners him and demands to know who sent him. When Grnaire shows no fear of death or any allegieance elsewhere, Enjolras challenges him to find him one more time. The third mural goes up in that alley.
New Years 2014Grantaire follows Enjolras to the home of Senator Leimieux. Without questioning or hesitation, Grantaire interrogates and kills the man for Enjolras. They escape together and Enjolras brings Grantaire home to the Amis without any forewarning.
March 2014After months of doubting and interrogating Grantaire, the Amis begin to accept that he is here to stay. He is still not one of them, but he isn’t going anywhere just yet.
During an op in Budapest, Enjolras’s meticulous control snaps and he is nothing short of brutal in taking down their mark. That night, when Grantaire goes out to put up his usual mural, a second mural goes up as well. This mural is done in a fervor mirroring Enjolras’s. It is in the same colors of the first, but of a tiger, elegant and deadly. This mural is not attributed to the artist R, but considered to be the work of an impostor as the styles seem to vary drastically and the only connections are the colors, signature, and recent extremist act.
May 2014Enjolras leaves on his first solo op since Grantaire partnered with him outside of Paris. Grantaire’s anxiety skyrockets and leads to his leaving ABC. Thanks to Bossuet, they are able to find him and bring him back. Jehan orders the clearing of their attic as a detox room for Grantaire until he cleans up/Enjolras returns. First time the Amis really take stock of Grantaire’s instability.
July 2014Jehan prompts for Grantaire to take part in the planning stages of an upcoming op. With the assent of the Amis, Grantaire is officially considered one of them.
September 2014Without warning, Enjolras goes on a last minute local op without Grantaire and comes back a bloody mess. The ensuing fight is apocalyptic, not for the events of the fight itself but for what follows. Having told Grantaire to run ‘because that’s all he’s good for’ Grantaire reminds Enjolras and all Amis present that Enjolras knows the only way Grantaire will leave for good is in death. In an effort to give Grantaire space, the Amis let him leave and he drops off the grid for close to two weeks. In that time the Amis fear the worst and believe they will have to flee Paris if Grantaire has truly betrayed or left them. He returns, obviously having not been taking care of himself, but as though nothing has happened. All fears of Grantaire betraying them are forsaken. Unbeknownst to the Amis, during those weeks Grantaire inked the tiger mural to his back.
Halloween 2014In a moment of relaxation a midst the usual sparring, Grantaire finally voices his curiosity over the obvious affection between Jehan and Bahorel and the rest. After swearing at and about Enjolras, Jehan informs Grantaire that all of the Amis are in a queerplatonic relationship with one another, the nature of which varies between them. Grantaire proceeds forward unbothered, but unaware of the fact this relationship also includes him.
January 2015Without thinking, Grantaire joins the others for breakfast one morning without his shirt and reveals for the first time that he is the artist of the second mural via the ink on his back.
March 2015After finally learning the meaning behind the tiger mural, Enjolras confronts Grantaire about it and the tattoo on his back. In the fight, Grantaire admits to seeing himself as merely a weapon for Enjolras’s Cause. For the first time Enjolras, and the eavesdropping Amis, begin to realize Grantaire’s insecurities and feelings of exclusion among them. The fight ends rather peacefully with an apology and admission of Grantaire being one of the Amis from Enjolras. Following the fight, the Amis begin to take a more active role of including Grantaire in their relationship to confirm what Enjolras told him, starting with Courfeyrac a few hours later.
