Maybe it was difficult for some folk to believe that
the same guy who made a mockery of the Coastal
Wall could be the sort who took a few hours out of
his week to do community service. When that guy
was best friends with Feuilly and Jehan, it really
shouldn’t have been that surprising.

But Enjolras didn’t know that, Enjolras only knew the
tattoo artist and, maybe unfortunately, the fact that said
tattoo artist was recently arrested for vandalism.

“Well it wasn’t my ride of choice, but if you were
so concerned, ranger, you could have called.

Grantaire shrugged, trying to play off his non-chalance
with the whole situation.

“Look, I come down here a lot to help out. It’s not
punishment, if that’s what you’re thinking.

Well. The next twenty-ish hours were, but only in technicalities.

”—-And post bail for you? I think not.“

He is still– angry may be too strong a word–
but what other adjective is there to describe
the way his stomach FALLS at the grotesque
image sprayed onto vertical concrete? He’s
not quite sure himself why he’s so surprised
but Grantaire was decent and Enjolras had
pictured the vandal as someone cruel, who
rubbed the inevitability of death into wounds
of the citizens, made them scared to get out
of BED and made them angry at every effort
       towards salvation. They  c a n n o t  give up.

(   Not like this. Not yet.   )

It’s funny though, Enjolras thinks. He’s never
seen Grantaire here before. True, this is only
the second time he’s dropped by– the first on
his own but what else is there for an inactive
pilot to do? Blue eyes critical, lips pursed, he
lets some of the disbelief echo in his features.
But Jehan hadn’t given him a wide berth before
       so maybe Grantaire is telling the  t r u t h .

”What was your punishment, anyway? I
would think they’ll make you wash off your
         work but last I saw, it’s still right  t h e r e. “
